DESAM seeks all round development of MU

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University seeking all round development of the varsity.
DESAM strongly urged the VC to take up suitable step to check involvement of University teachers in contract/supply/construction works and spell out a policy for punishment of any teacher found to have indulged in such activities.
Demanding for checking of punctuality and classroom performance of teachers, DESAM also pointed out to evolve for timely advertisement of PhD programmes, timely completion of admission process, timely competition of mandatory course works and increase in intake of PhD students.
The memorandum also urged to take up suitable mechanism for speedy transformation of the University into a residential one with the installation of world class hostels, guest houses and catering centres etc.
Urging the VC to take up necessary steps for establishment of a publication division and a University Instrumentation Centre, DESAM also demanded for immediate commencement of publication of a University research journal on regular basis.
The memorandum added that suitable mechanisms should be evolved for ensuring timely conduct and announcement of results of all the University examinations (both UG and PG) before the onset of new semester.
Necessary steps should be taken up immediately for NAAC assessment of the University at the earliest, it added.
The memorandum also demanded for timely payment of University fellowship/scholarship to all the PhD students who are entitled to receive the same.
It added that suitable steps should be taken up to ensure free and fair selection procedure at the time of recruitment and promotion of teachers and officers of the University with strict adherence to the UGC guidelines.
DESAM also pressed on suitable steps to be taken up for external setting of question papers of all PG examinations under the scrutiny of internal examiners.
