Intellectuals role in bringing peace stressed

A one-day seminar on the Predicament of the People of Manipur was held today at Lamyanba Shanglen under the aegis Freedom Research Foundation, Imphal.
Speaking at the occasion, Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said that the intellectuals have greater role to play in bringing peaceful atmosphere in the State.
Since issues regarding poverty, environment and violence are the creation of the people, thus, it is the responsibility of the people to find a solution to these problems, said the minister.
He further added, instead of leaving the issues of the State to the Government and civil societies alone, intellectuals of the state should also take up the responsibility to help bring peace and development in the State.
Chief Guest of the occasion, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshwar said, the people of the State are into a critical situation in the face of armed conflicts.
He expressed the need for the people of the State to give up their selfish wants and work towards the betterment of the future of the State.
The chairman cum managing director of Freedom Research Foundation, RK Ranendrajit while commenting on the basic theme of the seminar mentioned that the seminar has been organized to get an opportunity to discuss a solution to find peace and development in the insurgent-hit State.
The technical session of the seminar attended by various intellects while Dr RK Ranjan, CDC Director of Manipur University, moderated the session.
Professor W Nabakumar of MU, Dr.Dhanabir Laishram and Dr Chinglen Maisnam presented papers on 'Reading the mindsets of the people of Manipur after sixty-three years of India-nisation', 'The Largest Democracy of the World Thrives on the Legacy of Colonialism in Colonising Manipur' and 'Hoping Against Hope in the Captive Market of Manipur' as resource persons of the seminar.
