Imphal, May 04 2012:
Students and staff of Shree Digambar Jain Mahavir Higher Secondary School today staged a sit-in-protest against injuring one of its students.
A class-X girl student suffered glass injury as a man residing adjacent to the school allegedly attacked on the window of the school as the students requested the man to reduce the volume of his music system yesterday.
Decrying the act of the man, identified as one Kongkham Jadumani, a press release issued by the teachers of the school observed that the man must be socially boycotted.
On the otherhand, Kongkham Jadumani claimed that the students of the school are unbearably noisy.
Speaking to reporters, he also questioned how Board of Secondary Education Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur gave recognition to the school.
Identifying himself as a former College Development Officer of Education (U), Jadumani said that he does not want to disturb the academic atmosphere of the school at all.
Jadumani added that being a heart patient and his wife suffering from chronic asthama, his family plays a music system to distract the noise of the students.
However, loud speakers are never used, he added.
Jadumani further said that the school managing committee did not bother to respond to his family's plea although he had informed about the inconvenience by writing letters to the managing committee and Jain Samaj.
Jadumani also said that he had also published an open letter in The Sangai Express on December 22, 2010 regarding the issue.
As no option left for them, Jadumani added, his family had to play the music system to distract the noise and also to bring a solution.
Saying that injury suffered to a girl was unfortunate, Jadumani said that his family did not attack with stone but his son just pressed the window pane as some of the girls were mocking at his son.
As some teachers started kicking and pushing the gate after the incident, he went out to check what was going on outside, he added.
Jadumani further said that he never thought to attack the teachers with a knife.
He also clarified that the allegations levelled against him are baseless and unfounded.
The coeducational school has students from Class Nursery to XII.
He also questioned how BSEM and CHSEM gave recognition to a school which does not have proper infrastructure and space.
