Imphal, August 03 2016:
Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills and Outer Manipur Tribals' Forum (OMTF) have resolved to launch democratic agitations if the Central Government fails to resolve the issue of 'anti-tribal' Bills by August 11 .
In a statement, the two bodies said that the decision was taken in a joint meeting held on July 18 .
JAC and OMTF urged the tribal people, organisations, educational institutes and public offices to refrain from making preparations for the upcoming 70th Independence day celebration unless an amicable proposal for an acceptable and sustainable solution is received within the given date.
It was also resolved in the meeting to observe August 31 as Tribal Unity Day across all the tribal territories of Manipur as a tribute to the ten tribal martyrs.
The JAC urged all the individuals and organisations of Churachandpur not to organise any event that may coincide or collide with the proposed observance of Tribal Unity Day.
The JAC further said that the relentless struggle of the indigenous tribal people in Manipur for safeguarding and protection of their land, rights and identity was triggered by the passing of three 'anti-tribal' Bills.
With the State and Central Government refusing to take proactive measures to address the grievances of the tribals and still choosing to turn a blind eye on the issues grappling the tribal territories of Manipur, their fight for an acceptable and sustainable solution continues, the JAC said.
