Brown sugar worth Rs 7 cr seized

A team of Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur, arrested two individuals and seized 7 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 7 crore in international market.
Briefing media persons today morning at his office chamber, W Basu, SP NAB/PRO Manipur Police, informed that acting on specific information regarding transportation of contraband drug items along Imphal-Dimapur highway, a team of NAB, under his supervision, conducted frisking and checking of vehicles along the road at Koirengei, near CRPF gate.
During the course of time, a Tata truck coming towards Koirengei from Imphal side, was stopped for checking at around 5.30 pm yesterday.
On checking the vehicle, the NAB personnel found 7 kgs of brown sugar concealed inside the tool box of the truck and as such, the driver and the handyman were detained for questioning.
During preliminary interrogation, the driver and handyman were identified as one Md Nawaz Khan (25) s/o Md Najir Ahamed of Lilong Chaingao and Fishubam Md Riyaz Khan (25) s/o Md Chaoba of Phougakchao Makha Leikai, Mayang Imphal, respectively and they revealed that they were on their way to Guwahati with the seized items.
NAB registered a case and arrested them on the spot.
NAB also seized the brown sugar and the Tata truck.
He also said that the seized brown sugar is worth Rs 70 lakh in the local market and around Rs 7 crore in the international market.
On the other hand, the arrested persons were produced before the Special Court ND&PS Manipur and taken into police custody remand for 7 days till June 7 .
