Seminar on Meitei manuscript begins

A two-day seminar on 'Textual Review of Meitei Manuscripts' organised by Manipur State Archives commenced from today at Hotel Imphal conference hall.
As a part of the seminar's inauguration programme books entitled 'Seminargi Khomjinba Warol Vol-VIII'; Luwanglon Khongul (manuscript)'; and 'History of Moirang' written by Saikhom Menjor were released by former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani Singh as the chief guest.
Highlighting that Moirang Kangleirol is an indispensable component of the Meitei people as it chronicles various events related to the history of Manipur, Dr chandramani emphasised on further research and publication by the scholars so as to enable the younger generation understand history of Manipur.
Noting lack of passion for reading publications based on ancient history among the Meitei people, he also urged the scholars to translate books on history of the Meiteis in English so that the global fraternity could have better understanding of the Meitei cultural, traditions and history.
During the technical session of the seminar's opening day held with (Retd) Director of College Development Council (MU) Dr Y Mohendra as the moderator, Dr N Birachandra Singh elaborated on 'The Historical and cultural aspects reflected in the old manuscripts (Puya)', N Raghumani Singh on 'A critical study of select Meitei Manuscript - Moirang Kangleirol' and L Ashok Kumar on 'A study of select Meitei Manuscript - Sokok Thirel, Pudin, Khamlangba Ireng Puwari, Malem Leishemlon and Thirel Layat' .
