Annoyed by the various Governmental policies adopted by the State Government, particularly towards Churachandpur, the Churachandpur District Students Union has voiced its reservation and dissension on various issues and pleaded to redress them immediately so as to avoid any unforeseen consequences.
A representation submitted in this regard by the student body said, it appreciate the approval for upgradation of Jiribam sub-division into a full fledged revenue district, but felt unfortunate on the inclusion of large parts of tribal villages without their will and consent.
Making its dissension on the issue clear, the Union said "not a single inch of the district (Churachandpur) be encroached upon".
Further, the representations accused the majority community of encroaching into the tribal lands and mingling them into the valley.
"Making used of the state machineries and taking undue advantage of the various non-functional institutions and the lacunae in the laws of the land said infuriated, the majority people encroached upon part of the originally tribal inhabited areas and through various process amalgamate it into valley" it said.
Kangvai, the district frontier village is one case it cited to substantiate their claim.
As a result the territorial areas of Churachandpur has shrunk, added the statement and pleads the State Government to restore all the hill districts to its original boundary.
To cater to the needs and requirements of tribal people inhabiting the hills, the union also urged for restoration of separate budget for Hill Areas as was in the past and to strengthen Hills Area Committee with adequate power and functions.
The union in addition insisted for implementation and execution as per the guidelines and rules of all centrally sponsored poverty alleviation and developmental pregrammes meant for the hill districts.
Maintaining that it would not hesitate to initiate its own course of action to protect and safeguard the district boundary and rights of the people the Churachandpur District Students Union representation to the Chief Minister said unforeseen consequences will result if the Government fails to perform.
CPI set its foot at Singngat AC: The Communist Party of India, for the first time made its presence felt in the interior constituency of Singngat in Churachandpur District today as it has formerly inducted sixteen executive members under its fold.
The newly inducted members include president of the Lungthul area congress M Ginmuanthang and P Thangkhanchin, president of Singngat unit of the congress party.
Most of their counterparts were also identified as formerly active members of the Congress party.
According to CPI/CCpur president Tuanzalian, the establishment of CPI units in Singngat has marked the entry of the party in two of the six ACs under Churachandpur.
He also claimed that CPI units will soon be launched at Tipaimukh, Saikot, Henglep and Churachandpur ACs.
The other Assembly segment CPI has already marked its presence is Thanlon, the constituency in which Tuanzalian had lost during the last election.
