Imphal, May 04:
In continuation of its ongoing inspection tour of schools located in hill districts with the slogan "Come let's rebuild education", a team of KSO inspected nine schools of Chandel district yesterday, informed a press hand-out.
In the course of the inspection, majority of the schools such as U Thing-kangphai LPS, L Molnom LPS, K Phailen LPS, Thing-kangphai JHS, Chakpi Molbem LPS and schools of the surrounding Nepali villages take classes only in morning.
Strangely, the students of these schools go to the privately run Chieftainship Residential School in the afternoon.
The Lower Primary Schools at Molnom, K Phailen and Thingkangphai JHS were found non-functional with no teachers and staff attending the schools.
However, basic infrastructures are available to these schools.
Nevertheless, the Ukon Thingkangphai LPS was found functioning properly despite the limited resources available to the school.
For the current year, the mid-day meal scheme is yet to be implemented in these schools of Chandel district inspected by KSO yesterday.
The student body observed that one of the main deterrents in proper functioning of these schools is the non-attendance of classes by non-local teachers who constitute a majority of the teaching staff.
Another set-back in the campaign for quality education is the dilapidated condition of the school buildings in Thingkangphai area under Chakpikarong sub-division, it noted.
Highlighting all these problems, the KSO urged upon the Government to take up remedial measures at the earliest.
