Advocacy programme and mass Covid vaccination drive at rehab centres begins

The mass Covid vaccination drive for inmates who are undergoing treatment at various rehabilitation centres across the State began today.
The special drive has been organised by Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) in association with Union of Private Rehabilitation Centres Kangleipak (UPRECK) Manipur under the supervision of District Commissioner of Imphal West, said a press release by UPRECK.
Around 85 inmates of rehabilitation centres viz Yaipokpa Rehabilitation and Child Care Centre at Kwakeithel Akham Leirak, Rise Again Rehabilitation Centre at Kwakeithel, Enoong Ngan Rehabilitation Centre at Mongsangei and Way to Life at Meitram were vaccinated in today's drive, added the statement.
SP of Imphal West, Dr S Ibomcha Singh, president of CCSK, Jeetendra Ningomba and secretary general of UPRECK, Soram Lakhikumar Singh were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Ibomcha appealed all not to stigmatise and discriminate those who are on the path of normalcy after falling prey to substance abuse.
He gave the examples of many who overcame the rough phase and are leading a normal and healthy life to motivate the inmates.
Jeetendra Ningomba said that the mass Covid vaccination drive has been initiated with the sole aim of vaccinating the inmates at the rehabilitation centres.
It will be a mobile vaccination drive and the remaining centres will be covered gradually with an aim to cover more than 90 percent of inmates at such centres, he added.
