3rd Kh Brojendro Theatre Fest begins

The 3rd Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival 2014 began today at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Palace Compound.
The inaugural function of the festival was graced by Education Minister M Okendro Singh and Commissioner of Art and Culture, Dr RK Nimai, who is also chairman of Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Fest as the chief guest and president respectively.
The nine-day long festival is being organised jointly by the Kh Brojendro Cultural Trust and Dept of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur with the theme Theatre for Peace and Friendship.
Besides local theatre groups, the festival also registered the participation of theatre groups from Bangalore and neighbouring Myanmar.
A play 'Bor Interview' written by Khundongbam Brojendro and directed by O Joykumar was staged by the Rupmahal Theatre group in the inaugural day of the festival today.
Kh Brojendro Singh is a renowned playwright of the State who has written a total of 64 plays, 15 radio plays and 8 shumang leelas.
Besides, he also brought out four audio cassettes during his lifetime.
Significantly, Brojendro's plays like Nainu Ama, Mock Assembly, Angaobise Eigi Imani, Hingminnabei Mahut siminnaba (Kabui) would be staged during the nine-long day festival besides other plays.
Eulogising Kh Brojendro and his contributions to the theatre world, Minister M Okendro said the participation of theatre groups from outside the State including Myanmar would go a long way in expanding the theatre arenas of the State and in turn would promote peaceful coexistence among all people.
He also stressed cultural unity through theatre.
