3rd Kh Brojendro theatre fest begins

The 3rd Khundongbam Brojendro Theatre Festival organized by Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and Department of Art & Culture, Manipur under the theme "Theatre for Peace and Friendship" was inaugurated at Maharaja Chandrakriti Auditorium, Palace Compound here today.
The inaugural function of the festival was attended by Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro as Chief Guest and Commissioner of Art & Culture Department RK Nimai as President.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Okendro said that theatre festivals would help to bring cultural and emotional integration in the State.
The family members of late dramatist Brojendro have taken up a good initiative to keep his contributions alive as well as promote theatrical activities in the State, the Minister noted.

Art & Culture Commissioner RK Nimai said that the State Government is focusing on development of art and culture in the State.
The recently inaugurated Maharaja Chandrakriti Auditorium would provide ample opportunities to young and talented theatre directors and artistes.
He further expressed happiness over inclusion of Manipuri Sankritana in the UNESCO's list of world cultural heritage, and added that the Government would strive to include Lai Haraoba in the UNESCO's list too.
The inaugural function was also attended by MLA of Yaiskul Elangbam Chand and Managing Director of Shija Hospital and Research Institute Dr Kh Palin.
Floral tribute was also paid to late Kh Brojendro along with staging of his play titled "Bor Interview" by the artistes of Rupamahal Theatre Manipur during the inaugural function of the festival.
