Basantakumar golf tourney held

The third Wangkhem Basantakumar Memorial golf tournament organised by Manipur Golf Association in collaboration with Mantripukhri Ecological and Training Area (MEPTA) was held on January 11 and 12 at MEPTA golf course in IGAR (South) headquarters, Mantripukhri.
Speaking on behalf of the Wangkhem family, Ratnakumar Hawaibam told mediapersons today that the trophy dedicated in the name of Wangkhem Basantakumar is to honour the departed MLA's passion and effort to promote golf in Manipur.
Conveying gratitude to Deputy IGAR (S) Brig AK Gupta for facilitating smooth and successful conduct of the prize distribution function on January 12, he said the tournament was participated by teams of MGA (2), MEPTA (2), Meghalaya State and Air India Sports Board.
The first day had individual competitions followed by team event the next day, said Ratnakumar who represented MGA and finished runner-up in individual nett event won by rifleman Pandey of MEPTA.
MEPTA-B wrested the team title while MEPTA's havaldar Prasuram Singh bagged the gross crown.
The prize distribution programme was attended by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, 3 corps commander Lt Gen SL Narasimhan, GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen Pradeep Bali, IGAR (S) Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra and manipur DGP Shahid Ahmad, he added.
