Imphal, June 01 2018:
National Sports University (NSU), Imphal Registrar has written to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports not to open any outlying campus of the university until its main campus is fully functional.
The Registrar wrote the letter following the Ministry's initiative to open some outlying campuses of NSU Imphal at different parts of the country even before the main campus is ready.
The letter written by Registrar K Radhakumar yesterday pointed out that many student bodies and the people of Manipur are apprehensive that only Under Graduate courses would be taught at Imphal while key courses like Sports Journalism, Sports Management, Sports Performance Analysis etc would be opened at outlying courses, sources informed.
Even though MSc (Sports Coaching) and MA (Sports Psychology) courses would be opened later at NSU Imphal, Physical Education course currently opened at NSU Imphal is opened at many colleges of the State and also at Manipur University, the letter mentioned.
Highlighting people's apprehension that modern courses like Sports Science and Sports Medicine, Sports Management and Technology etc are likely to be opened at outlying campuses, the Registrar urged the Ministry to open outlying campuses only after the main campus at Imphal is fully functional.
He further urged the Ministry to stall the reported initiative to open outlying campuses at Lucknow and another city for sometime.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the ordinance passed by the Union Cabinet for establishment of NSU Imphal has been approved by the President of India.
