Imphal, May 25 2017:
Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur has today conducted a discussion programme on 'Pre-Primary Education in Manipur- Importance and Significance' at State Guest House, Sanjenthong today.
The discussion programme was graced by SCERT, Manipur Director Moirangthem Meenakumari, DESAM vice president A Anand and All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association general secretary Laishram Joy Khuman as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Moirangthem Meenakumari said, "Pre-primary education is important as a child gets exposed to the learning environment from the early stage.
Educating the child to learn good habits and introducing them to the outside world for the overall development are crucial in today's world" .
L Joy Khuman said, "Day care centre was first set up in the Manipur in the early 1990s.However, one must not forget that pre-nursery to kindergarten stages play a very crucial role in the lives of the children.
As such, regulations that suit the requirements of the children should be laid down.
Teachers of the day care centres should be well-trained.
Manipuri folklore should be narrated to the children to instill a sense of respect towards the rich folk literature of the State and conserve the same" .
A Anand said, "After Right to Education Act was implemented, day care was replaced by Anganwadi Centres which unfortunately have failed to serve its purpose efficiently till date.
Other private kids' centres are also being set up in the State in which some of them were found to have not been recognised" .
He added that early and middle childhood are very significant stages of one's life.
The discussion programme has been conducted to discuss steps which can be initiated in order to set up healthy and effective platform for the children to learn good things.
