AMUCO, UCM urge ahead of June 18

AMUCO and UCM have appealed to the people of the State to extend their full support and cooperation for the coming 16th The Great June Uprising Unity day observation.
Speaking to media persons at UCM office at Lamphel, UCM secretary general YK Dhiren said that AMUCO and UCM have been observing June 18 each year as The Great June Uprising Unity Day in honour of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the uprising by the people of Manipur against the inclusion of the words 'without territorial limit' in the cease fire agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) at Bangkok in 2001 .
An observation committee was also formed to oversee this year's observation with AMUCO president Ph Devan, UCM president Elangbam Johnson, UCM secretary general YK Dhiren and AMUCO general secretary S Sanjoy as the chairman, vice chairman, convenor and co-convenor respectively.
He pointed out that 11 sub-committees have also been formed.
Dhiren appealed to the people of the State to provide full cooperation as well as emotional and financial support to make the observation a grand success.
AMUCO president Ph Devan also appealed to the people for support adding that the event would not be possible without public participation.
Speaking to media persons, he said that not only the people of Manipur, but the people of the whole North East, have no knowledge about the contents of the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) and expressed uncertainty whether the contents would result in tensions between different communities or bring peace and tranquillity.
He pointed out that the people should stay vigilant regarding the contents of the Framework Agreement and expressed the need for the June 18 observation to be a grand and noticeable event.
