300 acres of Illicit poppy cultivation destroyed

A combined team consisting of NCB Imphal, 39 Assam Rifles, Custom Division Imphal, NAB Manipur, Churachandpur police and AMADA have destroyed approximately 300 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Thinghat and adjoining areas to Myanmar in Churachandpur district in a three days drive launched from January 9 to 11. A release of NCB Superintendent informed that the team already ruined 750 acres of illicit cultivation, valued at Rs 9 crores, in the same district during first week of January 2012. During last year, the team had destroyed 904 acres of poppy cultivation, valued around Rs 10.84 crores, in the State, it added.
It is further mentioned that the Unit has got many informations regarding illegal cultivations of poppy plants in different locations of hill areas in Manipur and would be taken-up intensive operation in the comming months in order to control the drug menace from the surface of the State.
The Regional Director has also appealed to the public to give information s to NCB about illegal cultivation if they know about it.
