As in previous years the MPLF has called a boycott of Independence Day on Aug 15 as well as a general strike from midnight of Aug 14 till 5.30 pm of Aug 15.In a statement, MPLF however said that any people's movement will not be seen as going against the general strike.
However, MPLF has asked all to refrain from normal activities such as opening business establishments, transport ser- vices, cinema houses and other forms of entertainment during the general strike.
KNF set to boycott I-Day IMPHAL, Aug 11 : Close on the heels of six North East based underground organisations calling for a boycott of Independence day celebration in the North East, the Kuki National Front (KNF) has also called a 24 hour boycott of this year Independence Day celebration in the North East saying that I-Day celebration is not related in any way to the Kuki political problems.

Information secretary, Issak Kuki, KNF said inspite of great contribution by the Kukis during the Indian freedom struggle, the Government has been neglecting the political rights of Kukis.
It said that the front will boycott I-day celebration in entire North east till the Kuki political problem is settle by Indian Govt, adding that Kukis territory cannot be given to unhistory people but it shall remains with the Kukis.
