The two Ministers and six MLAs, who had declared to resign from their respective posts in case Armed Forces Special Powers Act is not repealed within August 15, would tender their resignation papers in full public view at Sahid Minar on August 16, asserted former Agriculture Minister K Ranjit.
Addressing a public gathering at national Children School, Khongman today Ranjit asserted that after resigning as MLAs they would take part in public agitation as ordinary citizens.Also taking part in the programme Heingang AC MLA N Biren claimed that a 102 paged report on numerous cases of security force atrocities under the immunity granted by AFSPA, fake encounters to eliminate captured person/s, custodial deaths, abuse and rape of women has been forwarded for Central leaders.
The report containing detailed information pertaining to the people�s suffering due to imposition of AFSPA and prepared by MLAs and Ministers who had already announced resignation if the Act is not removed will be submitted to Central leaders by the Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing and Commerce & Industries Minister Th Debendra who left for the New Delhi today, informed Biren.
Thongju kendra MLA and former Family Welfare Minister Bijoy Koijam pledged that he would never compromise the interest of the people of Manipur to please central leaders but would staunchly oppose any central or State Government move that is detrimental to the aspiration of the masses.
Bijoy Koijam further contended that Assam Rifles�s assertion of the deceased Thangjam Manorama Devi being a PLA activist is not acceptable and even if she was an UG member it is the prerogative of the Court to conduct trial and mete out appropriate punishment as per law practised in a democratic country.
Even though none of his local supporters were consulted when resignation pledge was taken today�s gathering would be considered as approval of his decision to step down as MLA, Bijoy Koijam observed at the programme organised by Miyamgee Yaipha Lup, Khongman.
Public from Singjamei Kshetri Leikai, Bashikhong, Khongman and Ucheckon were present at the programme.
