Imphal, January 08 2016 :
The United Naga Council (UNC) has deplored the alleged inaction of the Government of India on the unfortunate incident of human rights abuse perpetrated by Manipur police commandos on December 26 and 27 (Christmas festival) 2015 at K Somrei Naga village of Saikul Block, Senapati district under Yairipok Police Station disrupting the whole spirit of Christmas.
The UNC, in a statement, alleged that the police commandos molested, assaulted the girls and disrupted the Christmas social night.
Besides, four civilians were seriously injured by the indiscriminate firing of the police commandos and many more were detained and tortured in their custody unlawfully.
In this connection, the UNC had submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister on December 30, 2015 seeking his intervention.
But no positive action has been taken up till today.
The UNC also strongly condemned the alleged wild action of the police commandos' intercepting and threatening Gaidon Kamei, president, UNC and his team on their return journey from a meeting at K Somrei Naga village towards Imphal on January 4."The intention and pre-planned action of the police commandos threatening on the life of UNC leaders is seriously viewed and if any untoward incident is caused to the life of Gaidon Kamei and any UNC officials in the near future, the Government of Manipur should bear all the responsibility," the UNC statement said.
At the same time, the UNC has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India on January 6 seeking timely intervention in connection with the recent earthquakes.
The UNC, in the memo, urged the PM to set up permanent centre of NDRF, SDRF and National Disaster Management Authority and all related agencies in all the sensitive zones.
It urged the PM to constitute technical experts team to carry our inquiry and investigate on tunnels, tracks, bridges of Trans-Asian Railways from Jiribam to Tupul.
The UNC further urged the PM to send seismologist and geologist to study the explosive situation and install Earthquake Observatories in all the sensitive zones and provide immediate relief assistance to the victims and affected villagers.
The UNC is also aggrieved to remind the Government of India and the people of all concerned about the vicious 3 Bills and 2 Resolutions passed on August 31, 2015 by the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
"The UNC will be compelled to take up intensive agitation shortly against the "communal policy" of the State Government to protect and defend our inalienable rights," it added.
