Police today blocked a protest rally of teachers of government schools demanding implementation of recommendation of Sixth Pay Commission and forced to converge at THAU ground Thangmeiband after around two hours of struggle.
Around 2000 teachers of government primary, high and higher secondary schools under the banner of Council of Teacher's Association (COTA) marched the protest rally as part of its mass court arrest stir in continuation of their series of protest demanding revised sixth pay bands.
The rally started at about 11.30 am from Khoyathong High School ground with placards written slogans demanding in toto payment of the sixth pay bands of the Central government employees, rectification of pay anomalies and removal of state finance secretary etc.
A team of police blocked them in front of the PWD office at Khoyathong where protestors remained shouted various slogans with regard to their demands.
They also turned towards the police personnel urging them to join the stir.
Later, police forced back them upto THAU ground where they were kept confined in the name of picking up.
Leaders of the Manipur Secretariat Service Association and JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO also took part in the protest rally.
They reaffirmed that the stir of the employees will continue until the demands are fulfilled by the government, said general secretary M Joykumar of COTA talking to reporters.
Employees of the Manipur government under the banner of the Joint Administrative Council of All Manipur Trade Union Congress (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government of Employees Organisation (AMGEO) were on cease-work strike since January 16 last.
