The 12 hours general strike called by Tera branch of Manipur Forward Youth Front from 6 am along the NH- 53 today passed off peacefully by and large.
Security force personnel bursts tear gas shells at Tera Bazar and Tera Loukrakpam Leikai areas to disperse general strike supporters who nevertheless showed up soon after the police left to enforce the strike.
While roads were blocked at several places along the route, shopkeepers/owners at Tera Bazar were ordered to down shutter by the strike supporters.
Passenger bus operators also ceased service on the route for the day as roads wore a thin look.
Reports were also received of Strike supporters deflating bicycle and motor vehicle tyres to enforce the strike called in demand for complete revocation of AFSPA from Manipur.
'Meanwhile, in response to class boycott agitation till AFSPA is completely repealed students of Manipur College refrained from attending classes with effect from today, said a press release of the students' union.
AMSU, Chingmeirong branch also informed of enforcing the class boycott agitation at all the educational institutions within its jurisdiction from today.
