Imphal, September 04:
Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Bhattacharya of Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) while strongly condemning the brutal murder of Thangjam Manorama has termed the act as the inhuman and barbaric which should be condemned by one and all.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Nupi Lai Memorial Complex today while participating in a sit in protest staged against the army atrocities in the State, MP Manoj lauded the people of the State for launching the current agitation in a democratic manner and peaceful manner.
He also maintained that the ongoing agitation for the removal of AFSPA was a spontaneous movement of the people and was neither instigated nor influenced by the underground outfits operating in the State.
Asserting that Armed Forces Special Powers Act has completely failed to serve its purpose and instead insurgents outfits have increased considerably in the State since the imposition of the AFSPA, MP Manoj said that the dreaded act has not only encouraged the security personnel to kill at will but also empowered them to unleash a reign of terror in the State.
Commenting on the upcoming visit of the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to the State; he said that the Union Minister should have rushed to the State when the agitation was in its initial stage and worked out a solution instead of letting it drag on continuously for the last one and half months.
It is very unlikely that the Union Home Minister will take up any steps to repeal the black laws during his visit, added Manoj.
