Five hurt in Shangshak Phunghon clash

Ukhrul, February 04 2013:
At least five people reportedly sustained injuries after a violent clash broke out between two rival groups at Shangshak Phunghon village of Ukhrul district.
The clash between the two rival groups took place at Shangshak Phunghon village located about 25kms from Ukhrul town on Sunday evening at about 6.30pm.The incident, which reportedly occurred due to some long pending feud between two groups, spilled over on Monday morning and eventually left five people wounded when the two factions attacked each other with lethal weapons including shotguns, daos and spears.
Three of them sustained gunshot wounds and have been hospitalised.
Details of the rest who got injured in the clash could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
To prevent further escalation of violence, the District Magistrate has promulgated restriction section 144 CrPC Act in the area.
This morning, a team of 50 policemen led by Chingai SDPO and Ukhrul incharge SS Rathinam rushed to the area to take stock of the situation.
In connection with the clash, 12 villagers have been arrested and detained in Ukhrul police station today.
