New SAI Centre to come up at Kangla Sangomshang with 2020 Olympic target

With an aim to produce more Olympians from Manipur in 2020 to bring home more medals, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) is planning to set up a new SAI centre at Kangla Sangomshang very soon.
The information was disclosed by Sports Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, PK Dev.
He is here in Imphal in a two day visit to take stocks of the various schemes and projects being taken up in the state under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Observing that Manipur is taking a major role in bringing laurels of the country in many international championships, he said that Centre is taking special interest in Manipur in the field of games and sports with an aim to groom up the young talents so that they can bring laurels and win more medals in the international championships.
The proposed SAI Centre at Kangla Sangomshang is a project of the Centre to produce more Olympians from Manipur to the 2020 Olympics Games.
Centre is targetting to complete the construction of the centre by 2016 .
The new SAI Centre will keep special weightage in contact sports.
The decision was taken after the success of Mc Mary Kom in winning bronze medal in the London Games.
Moreover, Manipur has proved one again as a powerhouse of sports by producing five Olympians in different events.
After he landed here today, PK Dev visited the site for the construction of the New SAI Centre at Kangla Sangomshang.
He also visited Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, National Sports Academy and SAI SAG at Khuman Lampak, Imphal.
Later he interacted with players of SAI SAG where he was accorded a warm welcome by coaches and players of SAI SAG.
He also assured the players of modern infrastructures and equipments for the training centres in the state.
SAI Director, Francis Marwin, Sports Director, Ashok Kumar and officials of SAI and Sports Department accompanied him in his visit today.
