Security beefed up ahead of Rahul Gandhi's visit

Police have intensified security measures ahead of the scheduled visit of All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi to the State tomorrow.
Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally at Hatta Kangjeibung, Imphal East where he will seek vote for Congress for the forthcoming 11th State Legislative Assembly election.
As part of the security measures, Imphal East district commando led by OC B Lungthang Vaiphei along with women police personnel conducted search operation at Haokip Veng and Mahabali Khul under Porompat police station today morning.
Around 325 people including 75 women were verified by the police team.
No one was detained in the search operation.
Imphal East district police along with paramilitary forces also sensitized the venue and its surrounding areas by using metal detector and sniffer dogs.
A large number of security personnel is being deployed at Hatta Kangjeibung.
Frisking and checking in and around the venue have been intensified to foil any anti-social activities.
A SPG team for Rahul Gandhi have already arrived in Imphal and have been carrying out sanitization work at the venue and its nearby areas.
The team along with Manipur police carried out rehearsal of Rahul Gandhi's motorcade from Imphal Tulihal Airport up to the venue.
A grandstand has been set up for the AICC vice-president.
