Imphal, February 27 2017:
Volunteers of the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) today seized some eatable items from a grocery shop of Paona Keithel which have expired and their labels manipulated.
Showing the seized items to media persons at their Keishamthong office today, MSF general secretary Wanglemba Khaba said that the expired items were seized in the course of an inspection drive carried out at grocery shops located along Masjid Road, Paona Keithel.
A number of eatable items like soft drink powder (Rasna), pickles, jellies, lollipops and sweets (shuanpapari) were found inside one Mukesh Store.
But most of these items were found to have expired and the packets were found pasted with new, manipulated/fabricated labels, Wanglemba said.
Saying that MSF is deeply perturbed by such unethical practices, Wanglemba said that all the seized items would be handed over to the Government's relevant office.
He further maintained that Mukesh Store should remain shut until an agreement is reached.
He also appealed to all the people to check all eatable items for expiry dates and signs of manipulated labels.
