Tribal folk music festival concluded

Three day festival of Tribal Folk Music of Manipur 2012 has been concluded at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Sanglen, Palace Compound today.
The festival was organised by Actors' Repertory Theatre, Singjemei Wangma Thiyam Leirak under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Govt of India and Manipuri Ensemble, Imphal.
The closing function of the three day long festival was graced by Commissioner Art & Culture Dept, Govt of Manipur Dr RK Nimai Singh, IAS as chief guest and president AMMIK Manipur Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam as president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr RK Nimai, IAS said that the tribal communities of the State have inherited their own unique culture and folk songs since time immemorial.
He maintained that the existence of Hinduism in the State resulted conflict between the different tribal groups.
It is the responsibility of all to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood among the different ethnic groups in the State through promoting indigenous cultures and traditions, he added.
Dr Nimai further mentioned that various initiatives would be taken up by the Art & Culture Dept to preserve the degenerated folk music in the State.
Highlighting the importance to organise such festival in future, AMMIK president Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam, in his speech, said that the promotion of indigenous folk music of different ethnic groups is an important step to bring peace and co-existence among all ethnic groups in the State.
Inter marriage between the ethnic groups should also be promoted in the State for a long term peace and co-existence, he added.
Around fifteen prominent folk music groups from different tribal ethnic communities also performed their indigenous folk songs during the closing function of the three day long festival today.
