Two hurt in PLA attacks

Imphal, April 15 2013:
One Assam Rifles personnel and a child have been injured in PLA's twin bomb attacks in Churachandpur and Thoubal districts yesterday ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee's arrival here.
Sources informed that the first explosion occured along NH-2 at Lilong Heinou Makhong in Thoubal district at about 7.15 am.
The mild intensity IED blast left eight year Md Naseeruddin s/o Kayamuddin of Lilong Haoreibi injured.
It is reported that the boy is out of danger.
Notably, there is a camp of 40 Assam Rifles a little distance away from the blast site.
It is suspected that the bomb was planted there to target personnel of the AR camp.
Amidst the tense situation caused by the explosion, another IED was discovered nearby following which movement of people and vehicles along the highway was blocked from two sides.
Traffic along the highway resumed only after the bomb was safely retrieved by a bomb disposal squad of Manipur Police.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident at Lilong police station.
On the other hand, one AR personnel sustained injuries when suspected PLA cadres opened fire upon troops of Assam Rifles apart from triggering another IED blast near Pheijaton village under Singhat sub-division of Chu-rachandpur district at about 9.30 am yesterday.
However, AR authorities have not been disclosing identity of the injured personnel.
The two sides also exchanged fire for a brief period, added the sources.
