Imphal, October 13 2014:
Teachers and students of Kiyamgei Ideal Government Aided High School today staged a sit-in-protest against demolition of classrooms by the workers engaged by three different contractors.
The rooms which are currently used as classrooms for Class III, IV and V were pulled down on Sunday.
Headmistress of the 50-year-old school, Y Tombisana said that the contractors dismantled the Government property without taking prior consent from the school authority and sans any demolition order.
Tombisana said, she heard that new classrooms for a Government Junior High School would be constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at the site.
However, the said Junior High School was formerly an LP School, she said and added that the school was later upgraded to Upper Primary and later to Junior High School.
Some decades back, the LP school was shifted to the campus of Kiyamgei Ideal Government Aided High School after the building of the former was devastated by a violent storm, she added.
As such, the site where the Junior High School is standing is the land of Kiyamgei Ideal Government Aided High School, the Headmistress added.
Moreover, there is an understanding between the local youth club and the school authority of not demolishing the classrooms before new classrooms for Kiyamgei Ideal Government Aided High School are constructed.
She added that Kiyamgei Ideal Government Aided High School has 400 students.
