Imphal, November 12 2016:
With a Government that has totally failed to protect its people, Manipur is best placed under the president's rule, senior Advocate Khaidem Mani has stated.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held at Loklaobung today senior Advocate and convenor of the People's Committee for Free and Fair Election in Manipur Khaidem Mani said different issues prevalent in Manipur like the demand for full fledged districts, ILPS movements, Churachandpur issue and the ST issue have dragged Manipur to the rock bottom.
The UNC's economic blockade is also contributing to the misery of the people.
Oil depots have run dry owing to which school van services have been stopped.
Petrol prices have rocketed to Rs 200 per litre in the black market rendering it difficult for office goers to attend office daily, he said.
"Petrol and diesel are sold in open at road sides and small shops but the police or other competent authorities have taken up no action against them", he said.
"Where is the people's Right to Life? Do we not have a Government?, Khaidem Mani enquired.
The Okram Ibobi led Congress Government should raise their hands up high and surrender as they have failed to look after the common people, Mani said adding that Manipur should be placed under President's rule for a change.
"Politics alone cannot be blamed for the present condition of the State.
Disunity and differences of opinion are some of the factors that can impact the integrity of the State.
Let us all work towards a better Manipur", Mani said.
