Imphal, September 09 2014:
The JCILPS Students' Wing today demanded unconditional release of the students who were arrested by a commando team led by Additional SP Y Victoria yesterday.
Speaking to mediapersons in Manipur Press Club today, Co-convenor of JCILPSSW, Sanasam Subhaschandra said, "On September 5, a task force team of JCILPSSW was conducting a verification drive of non-locals in Singjamei area.
During the process, one non-local panicked and ran inside Tushi Interiors office.
Even though the students tried to proceed with the verification, they did not step into the office.
However, manager of Tushi Interiors, Yengkhom Devson came out and shouted using offensive words to the students" .
"Devson was summoned to the office of JCILPSSW on September 6 and 7 for a talk but he did not turn up.
He was also informed that his office would be shut down if he failed to appear on September 8.Devson was thrashed not for his non-appearance despite repeated notifications.
An altercation broke out during the meeting following which Devson was thrashed," Sanasam Subhaschandra said.
Sanasam Subhaschandra alleged that a Commando team led by Imphal West Additional SP Yengkhom Victoria intruded into Imphal East district which was beyond her jurisdiction and pulled up students for thrashing her brother, Yengkhom Devson.
The Wing condemned the arrest of students and the use of abusive words by the SP.
The State Government must take up stern action against additional SP Y Victoria, he added.
Dismissing the earlier reports which said five students were arrested, Sanasam Subhaschandra clarified that seven students were arrested and demanded that police must come up with a clarification immediately.
The Co-convenor of JCILPSSW also asserted that Tushi Interiors store/office would be shut down until the arrested students are released and the Govt resolve the ILP issue.
He also stated that the Wing would not hold any talk with the State Govt until their demands are fulfilled.
