MSU tree plantation programme concludes; 7,000 saplings planted

Senapati, June 09 2019:
A tree plantation programme organised by Mao (Ememei) Students Union (MSU) under the "Green Project" since the beginning of the week came to an end on Saturday at Regional Potato Farm, Mao with 7,000 saplings planted at several Mao areas under Senapati district.
The concluding programme was held in the presence of Peter Khrasi, president, Mao Council and R Ashihrii, Member, ADC, Senapati in the midst of Hopeson Mao, president, Senapati District Students Association and members of 5 units of the Mao Students Union (MSU).
Lauding the student body for the initiative taken up to protect the environment, Peter Khrasi advised the student community not to forget the saying "Work while you work, play while you play".
R Ashihrii, Member, ADC, Senapati also lauded the student body for their endeavour to save the planet from further degradation.
While urging the students to take care of the newly planted saplings to ensure its survival, he asked the student body to take up an initiative to make the general public aware of the importance of protecting the environment before it is too late.
Kapani Lorho, president, MSU also maintained that trees help the environment in many way as it provides oxygen, improved air quality, climate amelioration, conserve water, preserve soil and enhance wildlife.
Saying that places like Emesiiphro, Mao Taphou, Khongnem Thana, Mao Potato Farm and different schools in Mao areas took part in the plantation drive, Kapani added that nearly 7,000 saplings consisting of fruit trees, evergreen trees and some medicinal trees were planted during the drive.
He also expressed gratitude to all those who contributed in making the Green project a success.
