Imphal, June 09 2019:
Lok Sabha MP Dr RK Ranjan has said that as a part of his first ever task as the MP, he will give priority to a cleaning initiative targeted at Kongba river.
He made the statement during a felicitation ceremony which was held at Uchekon Chongabi today under the aegis of Kongba Uchekon Area Local Clubs, Ucheckon Nongpok Gram Panchayat (GP), Uchekon Nongchup GP, Thambalkhong GP Pradhans and Imphal Municipal Corporation Ward No 20 corporators.
Speaking at the event, Dr RK Ranjan said that Kongba river is an important river of the State and many sacred places are also located along its banks.
Stating that the condition of the river has deteriorated, he said that some years back, an effort to clean the river was launched with many local youth clubs and at that time, Environment Directorate and Minister Th Biswajit helped a lot.
However, he said that the efforts of the people went in vain as the river often got contaminated from the wastes from JNIMS and other establishments and added that he will take up the task of cleaning the river as his first ask as the MP.
On the other hand, he said Minister Biswajit has already sent a proposal to the Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari for converting the Imphal-Yairipok road into a National Highway.
Uchekon Nongchup GP Pradhan K Munindro, Ucheckon Nongpok GP Pradhan N Jadumani, Thambalkhong GP Pradhan K Roma Devi and retired MCS P Ibopishak attended the event as the presidium members.
