Imphal, June 09 2019:
It has been claimed that the land pattas or documents in possession of the land owners residing in Taokhang Khunou Khudeiband (sometimes also known as village number 95) of Imphal West district, have turned out to be false/forged.
Speaking to media persons at Taokhang Khunou Khudeiband community hall today, one of the patta holders identified as Sandham Suresh, stated that the village has existed at the area since the last 60 years and added that during 2011/12, the then SDC informed the villagers that they can avail the necessary land patta as the Supreme Court had issued an order which also concerned them (the villagers).
He claimed that for the said process, the villagers pooled in whatever money they had and gave an amount of around Rs 2 lakh to the SDC, who even assured the people that he would take all responsibilities for the land pattas.
The then SDC did provide pattas to more than 47 villagers and ever since 2012, the people have been paying land taxes to the authority, he said, adding that however, on May 15 this year, some of the people went to SDC Lamshang office for renewing the pattas but they were told that the pattas they (villagers) had were outdated/possibly forged.
He then alleged that when the villagers approached the same then SDC and demanded the Rs 2 lakh to be returned, he claimed that he did not have any idea about the matter nor did he do any such works for the villagers.
Appealing to the authorities concerned to take up necessary action against the then SDC, he explained that the poor people of the village have not been able to acquire any schemes or benefits as the land pattas they have are false.
