For the first time in the North East region, a centre of the Skills for Employment in Apparel Manufacturing (SEAM) has been opened at Raja Dumbra Singh High School at Nongmeibung in Imphal East District today.
The SEAM centre has been opened under the sponsorship of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of Manipur and Department of Education (S) Government of Manipur with IL & FS Cluster Multi Skills Development Centre as the implementing agency.
The inaugural function of the centre was attended by Chief Secretary of Manipur Rakesh as chief guest; Secretary of Education (S), Government of Manipur PK Singh as president and CEO & Commissioner (Election), Government of Manipur Shambhu Singh and Associate Project Head of IL & FS V Padamanabhan as guests of honour.
Delivering the key note address of the function, Director of Education (S) M Harekrishna the training centre of SEAM has been set up by the Education (S) with financial support of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and IL $ FS Cluster Multi Skills Development Centre as the implementing agency with the main objective of ensuring employment to educated youths.
At first the newly opened SEAM centre would start its functioning along with providing 32 weaving machines and the training would be imparted to 32 trainees in each batch.
Apart from weaving classes, the trainees would also have classes on personality development as well as Hindi and English speaking.
The training would be for a duration of three months.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Secretary Ra kesh stressed on self employment among the youths of Manipur as the scope of employment in the Govt sector is very limited.
Associate Project Head of IL & FS V Padamanabhan assured that IL & FS would ensure placement of the trainees who would be passing out from the centre of Manipur.
Selected trainees of the first batch were also present during the function.
Unemployed youths who have studied upto class VIII may apply for undergoing the training programme and they don't have to spend any money for it.
