The state government and the authority of Manipur University in different statements had approved to withdraw their policy of expanding the Manipur University campus by acquiring additional lands from the adjoining areas of Heibok Ching and Phumlou Konjin Loukol, said Phumlou Konjin Loukol and Heibok Ching Land Protection Committee in a statement.
In connection with the withdrawal, the committee had organized a public meeting including the villagers of Langthabal Chingthak, Chingkha, Khoupum, Langthabal, Mantrikhong and Langthabal Kunja at the community hall of Langthabal Khoupum on April 23 last.
The committee during the meeting expressed their deep gratitude to the ruling state government, MLAs, authorities of Manipur University and all the civil organizations and groups including AMUCO, SLUCO, UCM, NUCAMO, Zeliangrong Union, Zeliangrong Students' Union, All Tribal Students' Union, CCDT, HERICOUN, NRC, UPF and all the clubs, women societies and meira paibis of the area for their daring and sincere contribution in all steps taken up by the Committee.
The state CM in a statement released to the Principal Secretary and Revenue ordered to expand the university campus without affecting any of the cultivable land of the surrounding area but to utilize the hill areas for its expansion further said the committee statement.
The public meeting had also resolved to undertake similarly serious action against any policies which may affect lands and the farmers of the area.
