Hectic works are on for the completion of the Subsidiary Manipur Police Training Centre at Yaingangpokpi in Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East District as police department is targeting to inaugurate the centre by May.
According to a source from Jiribam, 90 % of the construction works have been completed.
The ground work centre which would have 2500 intake capacity at a time was started from December, 2009 with an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.
Authority is targeting to complete as early as possible and inaugurates by May by the state DGP, Y Joykumar.
The erection of fencing, administrative block and barracks of the centre is in near completion.
Authorities responsible for the construction works said that they are confident of completing the construction works within the targeted period.
On other hand, another source expressed disbelieved in meeting the target and inaugurate timely within the scheduled time.
Mention may be made that before the police department takes over the area for setting of the subsidiary police training centre, the area was under rubber plantation and government earned an income of Rs 35 lakhs in a year.
Apart from government income earning centre, residents of the surrounding areas also got the benefits of the rubber plantation with the job employee from time to time in the rubber plantation farm.
With this behind residents of Jiribam particularly residents in the surrounding are still blaming the state government.
