To enquire about the arrest, Gafar's son-in-law Moulana Narshid Khan (30) of Mayang Imphal Bengoon went to Mayang Imphal police station at about 6 pm yesterday.
There, Narshid Khan was assaulted by one ASI saying that Narshid had nothing to do with the matter.
Narshid Khan also moved in self-defence.
Soon, the ASI brought out a cane and again started thrashing Narshid Khan.
With injuries on left arm, left wrist, left ankle and right palm-back, Narshid Khan was taken to New Light Clinic, Mayang Imphal by a police team.
Later, the police team gave Narshid Rs 100 and dropped him at his father-in-law's house at Irong with a threat that the matter should not be disclosed to any body.
A public meeting held today at Mayang Imphal Bengoon constituted a JAC against the assault.
