Despite the objections in the fore to the election to the hill district councils in Manipur, after the issue of notification for the first phase election, a total of 10 individuals have so far filed nomination papers, official source said today.
State Election Department issued notification for the election of 72 members of the ADCs in Chandel, Churachandpur and Sadar hill of Senapati district in first phase of the two-phase election of the ADCs on last Monday.
The last date of filing nominations is on May 4 and polling will go on May 26 next.
Four individuals (all independence candidates) filed their nomination papers at Kangpokpi ADC headquarters today, the official source said adding that six individuals had filed in Chandel district yesterday.
The filing of nomination papers were amidst the objections from various hill based civil organisations particularly Naga based.
ANSAM, one of the protesting groups is imposing indefinite blockade on the National.Highways passing through the state as part of protest against holding of the elections under the existing act.
Today also, a total of 299 vehicles including 239 loaded trucks, 44 oil tankers, nine bullet tankers and seven others have left Moa gate with security forces this afternoon, at about 2 pm.
On the other hand, BJP, Manipur Pradesh has decided to participate in the election to ADCs by fielding its candidates stated a statement of the party today.
The party also invited to all party members who are willing to contest the forthcoming district council election asking those willing individuals to obtain details from the party office.
