Second day of bazar bandh : Four hurt in confrontation

Four persons including a woman IRB personnel were injured during a confrontation between bandh supporters and police at Thangal bazar today.
The bandh was clamped at Khwairamband bazar and Thangmeiband areas by Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) for allegedly showing Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykishan and people of the Assembly segment in poor light by some women vendors of Ima Keithel.
They were also protesting the Government's failure to bring an amicable solution to the issue of accommodating displaced women vendors of Ima Keithel at the stretch between Ima Keithel and Kasturi bridge on Thangal bazar road.

As announced earlier, the bandh was imposed from 5 am to 6 pm today.
Since early morning, a large number of TAKDO members and locals of Thangmeiband blocked the roads by sitting in the middle of the road, making human chains and placing different objects on the roads.
The bandh supporters prevented all the private and passenger vehicles from entering Khoyathong and Thangmeiband areas.
All the shops and business establishments located at Thangal bazar, Thangmeiband and Khoyathong remained closed during the bandh.
However, the bandh had little impact at Paona bazar area.
During the bandh, a violent confrontation broke out between bandh supporters and police at Kasturi bridge.
The bandh supporters were trying to storm the area where construction of temporary market sheds were going on.
However, they were blocked by a large number of police personnel at Kasturi bridge.
During the confrontation, a woman personnel of 9th IRB was injured as she was hit by a stone on the chest.
She has been identified as Maisnam Aruna (31) of Langmeidong bazar and she was rushed to Raj Medicity for treatment.
After a few minutes, police fired some rounds of teargas shells at the protesters to push them back towards Khoyathong.
Three persons including one passer-by from Thambalkhong and two bandh supporters were injured in the police action.
Front door glass of the Maruti Gypsy allotted to Singjamei police station was partly damaged in the standoff.
No untoward incident was reported in other parts of Thangmeiband.
However, police were seen deployed at different localities of Thangmeiband throughout the day.
