State becomes Covid-19 free after two years

Imphal, May 20 2022: The state has become free of Covid-19 after two years and two months as the remaining three active cases, who were in home isolation, were discharged on Friday and no new case was reported out of 71 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

However, the government is yet to declare the status officially.

Mention may be made that the first Covid-19 case in the state was reported on March 24, 2020, a UK returnee from Thangmeiband, Imphal.

The detection of the first case created a wave of panic and fear among the people of the state resulting in barricading of the approach roads in different localities.

The second case was reported on April 10 followed by the third case on May 14 .

While the first two cases could be identified as isolated cases, the actual first wave of the pandemic began from May 2020, which recorded a monthly positivity rate of 0.83 per cent with no fatality.

The second wave of the pandemic began from April 2021 in the state with a monthly positivity rate of 6.41 per cent and fatality rate of 1.26 per cent.

The second wave got to its peak in May, 2021 and the monthly positivity rate touched 18.27 per cent with fatality rate of 2.13 per cent.

On the other hand, May 2022 has reported 0.46 per cent monthly positivity rate so far without any fatality.

However, July 2021 recorded highest number of new cases with 28,709 fresh cases (15.52 per cent positivity rate) fol lowed by June with 19,039 (10.34 per cent) and May with 18,894 (18.27 per cent) fresh cases.

In terms of fatality rate, December 2021 recorded the highest rate at 4.29 per cent followed by 3.80 per cent in November 2021.However, July 2021 recorded the highest fatality count of 406 deaths (1.41 per cent fatality rate) followed by May 2021 with 402 deaths (2.13 per cent) and June with 343 deaths (1.80 per cent) .

So far, the pandemic has claimed 2120 lives including seven CAPF personnel and infected 1,37,230 individuals including 5,014 CAPF personnel.

The virus has claimed lives of 194 vaccinated people, out of which 61 had received second doses of Covid vaccine.

There are 100 vacant beds available in JNIMS and 47 in RIMS.

So far, the state has recorded 11,442 positive cases and 118 fatalities since the beginning of the third wave of the pandemic.

The current month has reported 10 new positive cases and zero fatality.

There were neither any news cases nor fatality in a week's period.

A total of 116 D-type and 7 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours and 1647 vaccine doses administered on Thursday which took the cumulative number of vaccinated people to 15,66,086, out of which 12,21,353 had received second doses and 92,709 had taken precautionary doses.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (48748), Imphal East (30448), Thoubal (10161), Churachandpur (11054), Kangpokpi (3135), Tamenglong (3478), Bishnupur (9843), Senapati (2493), Ukhrul (3277), Kakching (6896), Chandel (2726), Noney (1158), Tengnoupal (1201), Jiribam (1111), Kamjong (1036), and Pherzawl (465).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (704), Imphal East (511), Thoubal (189), Churachandpur (168), Kangpokpi (67), Tamenglong (17), Bishnupur (205), Senapati (12), Ukhrul (51), Kakching (122), Chandel (42), Noney (5), Tengnoupal (15), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5), and Pherzawl (0) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 44,225 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 30,689 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 5,19,435 tests per million population against the national average of 6,01,615 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.54'per cent while the recovery rate is 98.46 per cent.

The cumulative positivity rate stands at 8.51 per cent.
