Outreach programme on income tax held

As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, a "One day Outreach programme on income tax" was held on Friday at the Counting Hall of Deputy Commissioner Thoubal.
The programme was organised by Income Tax department of North Eastern Region.
Income Tax Imphal Circle deputy commissioner M Joy-chandra Singh, Thoubal ADM Ksh Umananda Singh and Thoubal additional SP Shankerdeva Singh attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, Joychandra Singh emphasised on the importance of filing income tax returns (ITRs) and payment of taxes which are utilised for developing healthcare, education and infrastructure.
Socio-economic development of a country is largely dependent on its taxation structure, he added.
Addressing the gathering, Umananda said paying tax is important as it raises resources for welfare programmes.
The services provided by the government in infrastructure development, various schemes and programmes under health and education and other sectors are funded from taxes paid by the taxpayers of this country, he informed.
He also remarked that ITR hie should be hied by Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) concerned on time and urged the Income Tax department to organise similar programmes annually to give awareness to the public.
According to additional SP Shankerdeva Singh, most people take the process for filing of income tax return too lightly while reminding all concerned that that it is an important document whenever one sets up a project or business.
As part of the programme Intelligence & Criminal Investigation Unit 3 Imphal, Manipur and Nagaland income tax officer S Sachidananda Singh presented a power point presentation along with explaining that due to robust Digital India movement the process of filing of Income Tax Return (ITR) and other taxation matters is simpler now.

The Income Tax Department also felicitated eminent personalities namely Padmashree awardee 2021M Romita Devi, 'Tangkhul Saba' artiste Ch Iboyai Singh, 2017 State Teacher and 2019 National Teacher Awardee M Tombimacha Singh, national award winner for social service during COVID-19 pandemic M Eteen Singh, Sankirtana Pung artiste E Parshuram, agriculturists Ak Deben Singh, Ph Thoiba Singh and W Bimola Devi.
ZEO of Thoubal A Anilkumar Singh was also felicitated for his outstanding performance in the field of education.
The programme was attended by AC to DC A Ruhinikumar, DIO Thoubal T Sangeeta, DLOs of various departments, entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Taxpayers were enlightened about the importance of paying taxes on time while new provisions regarding penalties on late hling were also elucidated.
