Temple Board calls for revoking Thangjing hill restriction

While terming as unfortunate the restriction imposed on performing religious ceremonies and tree plantation at Thangjing hill by certain group of people, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board has appealed to the group concerned to lift the restriction and allow religious ceremonies and tree plantation at Thangjing hill range without any disruption.
In a statement, the Board said that both hills and valley dwellers of the land perform rituals at hills, lakes, rivers, ponds and stones since time immemorial and consider Koubru hill as the head and Kangla as the navel.
Among supreme gods who protected all four directions and eight 'Sungdai', supreme gods namely Koubru, Marjing, Wangbren and Thangjing are being considered as most important and the practice of praying these supreme gods before carrying out any important activity is still continuing, the Board said and strongly called for ensuring peaceful co-existence of hills and valley dwellers.
Deeply concerned over encroachment by some individuals at some important religious sites including at Tharoi Lok and nearby Pakhangba Ekol, the Board appealed to all concerned to stop such encroachments on religious sites.
The board also urged the people of Manipur to Save Koubru, Hannaching Laikon and Kongba Maru and stop deforestation in these sacred sites.
