Govt urged to compensate flood-hit farmers

Manipur Loumi Lup has drawn attention of authority concerned to provide compensation to farmers whose standing crops have been damaged by flood caused due to incessant rain and breach of river banks in several parts of the state.
The farmers' body also appealed to banks concerned to release crop compensation amount to farmers who have big farms and joined crop insurance but their crops were damaged by flood at the earliest.
It is well known that agriculture sector plays a big role in enhancing economic growth of the country apart from giving indirect jobs to crores of people across the country, the Lup pointed out, while appealing to the state government to provide compensation to farmers who did not join crop insurance but their Crops damaged by flood so that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of doubling farmers' income by 2024 could be achieved.
It also appealed to the state agriculture department to initiate steps for draining away flood water from paddy fields where paddy seeds have been already sown.
