Imphal, August 08, 2014:
Even as there has been no sign of abatement in the ongoing public movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur to check unregulated entry of outsiders, Thoubal District Transporters Union (TDTU) on Friday announced its support to the demand and said that it would suspend service from 5 am to 5 pm on August 11 to show its solidarity to the public movement.
Addressing a press conference in this regard at Manipur Press Club here, Secretary of the Union L Devkumar Singh observed that one-fourth of the total population in Manipur is now made up of outsiders as a result of the abolition of the restrictive system which was in place in the State back in 1950.So, re-introduction of the Inner Line Permit system is essential to protect the indigenous people from the onslaught of unchecked and unregulated influx of outsiders.
He also made it clear that the public demand for re-introduction of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur is not to ban entry of outsiders but to stop illegal influx of outsiders.
Meanwhile, responding to the call of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, which is spearheading the ongoing public movement for enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in the State, students of Mayai Lambi College, Yumnam Huidrom High School, Rural Academy of Advance Learning School, Iboton Modern High School, Little Rose Master School, Wangoi Higher Secondary School, Samurou High School, Nirmala High School and Wangoi Junior High School took out a protest rally at Wangoi in Imphal West today.
After the rally, a public meeting was also held at Wangoi Bazar.

On the other hand, Keirak Rural Women Development Association in collaboration with JCILPS jointly staged a sit-in-protest at Keirak Dam Bazar demanding implementation of ILP system.
Placards which read ‘Implement ILP system in the State', ‘Do not let non-locals rule the State', ‘We condemn beating of students' etc were used during the protest demonstration.
The protesters also resolved to restrict entry of non-locals without proper identification documents in Keirak Dam.
In connection with the ongoing demand, similar protest was also staged by locals and women folks of Sekmaijin Khunou at Sekmaijin Khunou Bazar.
