Arrested women ILP activists freed

All the arrested 27 members of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Women Wing, were released from Central Jail, Imphal at around 5:30 pm today.
Earlier in the day, the women activists were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West which remanded them to judicial custody till August 22 after they refused to seek bail.
During the production of the JCILPS activists in the court, a large number of women attempted to storm the court complex shouting slogans against the authority.
They demanded that all the 27 protestors, arrested by police during ILP movement, be released without any conditions.
Shortly after the police carried them away in two prisoner vans from the court complex, the women who were waiting outside the complex started a protest rally targeting the Chief Minister's official residence.
But police foiled the attempt by stopping them at BT Road.

Later in the evening, the activists were freed by the authority without imposing any conditions on them.
The news surprised all the women protestors.
They were received by hundreds of jubilant women outside the Central Jail gate who put garlands around their necks.
From there, they walked on foot up to Khwairamband market where women vendors welcomed them.
JCILPS also greeted them at the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) headquarters in DM College campus.
N Nganbi, convenor, JCILPS, Women Wing, pledged they will not withdraw their movement and demanded the authority to ensure unconditional release of advocate Arjun, member, JCILPS, who is now in judicial custody, by tomorrow.
Arjun was arrested by police in connection with the ILP protest.
