Imphal, August 08, 2014:
Demanding to address various grievances of the students of the DM College of Sciences including maintenance of campus road and girl hostel infrastructures, the Independence Day of the country which falls on August 15 will be boycotted.
Announcing it in a press meet held on Friday at the office of the DM College of Sciences Students' Union, the general secretary of the Union Pradeepkumar Laishram told that the streets in and around the campus of the College, which is now equivalent with Deem University, are in deplorable condition.
In this regard, the students' union as well as the principal of the college had urged the Government of Manipur since 2012 with no positive response from the concerned minister.
In the mean time, more fifty students than its intake capacity have been enrolled this year in the 1st semester thereby facing congestion among the students due to want of desks and benches inside the classroom.
In addition to it, the girl students coming from the periphery and his district are also facing lodging difficulty since the newly constructed girls' hostel building remains unutilized owing to lack of necessary hostel infrastructures.
The girl students of the college are now managed in the hostel of GP Women's College.
The general secretary also mentioned various grievances which needs Government attention such as construction of eastern gate of the college along with its adjacent incomplete wall.
Conclusively, the general secretary demanded to address their grievances before August 12 as dateline and he further conveyed that they will boycott the Independence Day celebration of the country.
Pradeepkumar also urged the students, teaching and non teaching staff of the college not to attend the celebration of the Independence of the country or will face consequences.
