Imphal, August 08, 2014:
Saying that students coming from far flung remote areas have been reeling under intense hardships after they were evacuated from Manipur University hostels on August 6 following a notice served by its Registrar, Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has made a fervent appeal to the university authority to let the students stay in the hostels.
In a press meet at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel here today, Luckyson Panmei, spokesperson of MUTSU, stated that around 78 students coming from hill districts are taking shelter in Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel since August 7 as they were finding hard to accommodate themselves anywhere after they were vacated from university hostels.
He said that the students are now told by the hostel authority to leave as some guests are coming to stay and in such a situation, they will be compelled to return back to their native villages.
Informing that MUTSU has spent around Rs 44, 000 in looking after the needs of the students so far; he appealed to the university authority to reimburse the amount.
If classes in the university are halted for a long time, exams for various courses will be postponed and announcement of results will also be delayed.
This all will affect the careers of the university students, he observed.
