NLOC to observe Nupi Lan

Nupi Lan Observation Committee (NLOC), in a press meet held at PPSM office, Waheng Leikai, said the committee would observe this year's Nupi Lan (Women's War) memorial ceremony on December 12 at Thau Ground, Imphal.
The key purpose of the observation, NLOC convenor Yumnam (o) Kamalini said, is to honour the courage of those women who laid down their lives in the struggle against British rule in the early 40s.
The observation will also discuss the prevailing issues in the State, Kamalini added.
The year 1904 and 1939 are regarded the most important years in the history of Manipur.
These years record the struggle of Manipuri women against British rule.
Nupi Lan memorial observation is an attempt to recollect and honour the strength and courage of these women activists who had relentlessly, fought for the freedom of Manipur.
The ceremony will also hold a discourse on topics like the deployment of security forces in the State by the Central Government in the name of controlling extremism, the violence mete out by these forces to civilians, the basic rights of the citizens, border issues and the ever increasing crime against women in the State, the observation committee stated.
The Nupi Lan Observation Committee, a committee jointly founded by six women organisations (Ima Lup) - Poirei Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Kangleipak Lamjing Meiralup Kanglamei, All Manipur Chingmi Tammi Lup, Women Association for Civic Action Kangleipak, Ching Tam United Women Association and Iramdam Kanba Lup - has further appealed for assistance and mass participation in the observation.
