Imphal, August 06:
Asserting that the Government order issued on August 2, which has put a blanket ban on the publication of any statements issued by underground outfits, the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union has today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to retract the same by August 9 or else the media fraternity will be constrained to take up a series of agitation including boycotting the Government as well taking to the streets.
Claiming that the order has not only interfered with the rights of the journalists to function freely, the memorandum said that the Government has also restrained the only means of communication through which people of the troubled torn State may strive to bring about peaceful resolutions to the many issues at hand.
If the order is is to be universally accepted then several National level newspapers, TV channels and magazines will not be able to function and have to be banned here.
